Over the past few months, Teaching Channel has been working with more than 230 partner organizations on the 100Kin10 initiative. The overarching goal of the initiative is to train and retain 100,000 excellent STEM teachers to educate the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

Two of the initial steps that our collaborative has undertaken is to identify the root causes of our current STEM teacher shortage, and also identify both the frequency and the fidelity of the engineering instruction that is occurring in today's schools. So far our findings have been quite interesting and all of the robust conversations have left me wanting to dig in deeper with all of you during a #TchLive Twitter Chat. And what better time than during Engineers Week, which is happening Feb. 21-27.

As some of you may know, I have quite a number of blogs and videos on Teaching Channel that focus on my experience integrating engineering into the classroom. A Tch featured educator that I very much admire, Jessica Levine, has agreed to co-host our conversation. If you haven't already done so, I strongly recommend checking out the videos of her 6th grade students actively engaged in scientific and engineering practices: Composites & Polymers for the Planet and Understanding Electricity with Photovoltaics. Good stuff! Composites, in fact, is part of a 10-unit curriculum series we at Tch co-developed with the Boeing Company called Science and Innovation.

Please join us on Thursday, February 25th at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET for our Twitter chat as we focus on engineering in the K-12 classroom as part of this year's Engineers Week. Come prepared to discuss the hows, the whys, and the hurdles that we face as we all work to shift our practice to meet the needs of the 21st century learner, share resources, and learn from colleagues. Jessica and I are looking forward to chatting and learning with you!
