How as a leader do I begin embedding #aNewKindofPD in my school or district?
The Engagement Team at Teaching Channel is here to help you rethink your professional development. Whether you want to know how to use video to support teacher growth, need a platform like Teaching Channel Plus (Tch Plus) to collaborate around video analysis, or just need a thought partner on best practices with video use in PLCs, coaching, induction, or new teacher programs, we’ve got you covered. Start with the tips below and request a call with our engagement gurus here at Teaching Channel.
Choose one of our elements of #aNewKindofPD and focus on how that looks in your current PD. Make micro-moves an element at a time or reach out to us for help. We’d love to support you in your professional learning practices.
Your Lone Nuts are the ones who can help you with making a movement or starting with a splash. You’re not alone, so reach out and find your building allies.
We believe that changes in teacher practice will be successful when all of the Knoster’s Keys to Success are present in your professional learning programs. Try a self assessment and see where your PD might be losing traction. Read the right hand column and see if your PD efforts feel like any of those descriptors. Then, look to the left and find the blank space that horizontally aligns with the feeling you noticed. From there, look up vertically and spot the element that might be missing. How could you revamp your PD to include all of the elements?
Our Tch Plus partners are all over the country. Check out the map below and connect with them to hear how they are implementing #aNewKindofPD.
Use audio or video playlists to spice up your PD. Music helps set a fun tone for the meeting and can lighten the mood when needed. It also serves as a great time keeper if used in the background while people are collaborating. Check out one of our auditory amp ups and some of our content kickstarters: Math, ELA, Social Studies, and STEM.
Consider giving your staff a quick survey to gauge what they love about your PD and where they might want some spice. Feel free to make a copy of ours!
