  2. Why is moving from whole group to small group to individual work effective in this lesson?

A large group discussion can get a student started when trying to create their own thoughts. It allows opportunity to ask broader questions and share with those who aren't sitting near them. It provides a transition for small group discussion that is now more detailed and focused.

The students use of the original story to then reconstruct to a modern version is a good use of logic and strategic skills. It enhances the students ability to think thru a situation and evaluate the true meaning. Removing the bias part of the story is way to ensure students see the activity in objective way. In addition, using smaller groups opposed to larger groups helps the kids to each partcipate in the activity and give constructive feedback.

In the beginning of the class the teacher broke down the steps about the roles of adaption. The class practiced examples and shared with their groups and individually shared dialogue lines from movies. They worked in groups with their peer to write their own dialogue which was preparing them for their homework assignment.

  1. How does the opening activity and discussion about students bias provide a framework for the lesson? She wants the students to think about how they can use the original story to rewrite a more modern version. The students should be able to take what they have read and in ways translate it to an updated version. The purpose of leaving out bias is to ensure the students see the activity objectively instead of subjectively.
  2. Why is moving from whole group to small group to individual work effective in this lesson? Moving to smaller groups allows more students to have more time to provide input and reflection for the topics that they have just learned. The class period is very short, and in this way the teacher helps more students to become fully engaged in the lesson.

The teacher did a great job being able to break down the literature and breaking it down into steps they were able to understand. Reading films that the students grew up and being able to understand the themes the movie is projecting. With the teacher being able present this idea to the students they will be able to connect the dots to write their own dialogue. Being able to separate the students into small groups from a whole group heightens the student’s interest in their dialogue, while really being able to express them creatively with in their writings.
