Discussion and Supporting Materials
Thought starters
- How does a controversial subject motivate students?
- Notice how Ms. Koch scaffolds student exploration by discussing vocabulary, identifying specific sources, and providing a guide for evaluating sites. In what ways do students provide evidence during their presentations?

The students instantly connected to the subject (year round school) and were motivated to find ways to speak against it. Ms. Koch knew this would be the case and provided the subject specifically to engage them in quick research.
The students provide evidence thru their searches and discussions with each other, and with the class/teacher after the assignment in a reflection period.
