This video taught me that when I have students working on any type of assignments and if they are lost and have any questions, then they should ask 3 students for help before they ask the teacher. So this is helpful because in a case of group work, if the students are all actively engaging in the assignments and they all of a sudden dont know what to do next then they can ask another group or student for help before asking the teacher for clarification on assignments.

This video has taught me that this rule is very useful in the building of bonds between classmates whenever they do not know something. After conversing with three classmates and it is clear that everyone they asked is also confused, then that is where a teacher can step in and help guide the class on their confusion. This allows instructional time to become maximized by ensuring that students can get help from each other instead of always interrupting the teacher. This surely builds a culture of trust and companionship since they are expected to rely on one another.

This rule allows the students to not interrupt the teachers doing small group or the students doing small group. Also it shows that some of the other students know what is going on and if 3 people do not know what the answer is then the teacher probably needs to address the whole class because the question will come up again. Also it is a great tool to make the students socialize in the classroom, and get to know and ask for help from some of the students that they do not talk to ask often.

The rule allows for the students to reach out to other students for help before the student asks the teacher. It helps build trust amongst themselves and to know they can rely on others for growth. Hand signals help students understand that they must ask three other students to help answer their question they have. Keeping classroom cooperation while building communication skills creates an environment for students to thrive in while learning new skills.

Ask 3 then me is a great way to keep the students from interrupting another small group. Although, I think the students need to understand they should ask 3 students quietly and not disrupt others when asking their questions. This also allows the students to be social and know that other students can help them if needed and it is a positive interaction. The fact the students recognize the hand signal is also great because they know what is expected of them when the teacher does that signal.

    Susan Yim (Interview):
A useful technique that I use in my classroom is called “Ask 3, Then Me.”
    “Ask 3 Then Me”
    Yim (Interview):
It’s a technique that really helps during small group time.
I will have them ask three students before they come to ask me a question.
And so, by the third student they usually have the answer to “Okay, so what are
we supposed to do next?” or “What was the direction for this particular activity?”
So once they get that answer, they don’t have to come to me.
If they see I’m working with a group and I do this, they know “Ask 3 Then Me”—I
don’t even have to say anything.
Not only does it alleviate the interruptions when I’m working with a small group so
that the small group doesn’t lose focus, but it really helps the classroom climate.
I think there’s a feeling of collaboration, of cooperation.
And I liken it to a work situation––employee and employer. You don’t go straight
to your boss every single time you have a question. You have co-workers. And
we like to build that sense of cooperation in the classroom.
    Ask three, then me!
