  2. What can you learn from Ms. Price about celebrating successes?
  3. How could this strategy be used as an assessment?

This was a great strategy used by Ms. Price. It helped her check the students' understanding while teaching. You can use this strategy at the end of any lesson.

I love that the students are self reflecting. It is a great way for the teacher to ensure the students deep understanding of their work. I sometimes give an "exit" ticket the following day for a warm up that requires the students to compare and contrast the day befores work. In math it is very important that the students understand the process rather than just getting an answer.

-How could this activity be used as an assessment? I love the idea of self reflection on the bottom of rubric, so that way I could focus on what they think they did the best. This will also allow me to reflect with them, and help their self confidence grow. -How would you use this in your own classroom with your own students? I could definitely use this in my projects in ESL, because I think it will help them focus on what they do well.

-How could this activity be used as an assessment? The exit ticket or rubric is a great assessment. This gives the teacher an idea of what the student is thinking in terms of what they did well. -How would you use this in your own classroom with your own students? I like the idea of adding a quick shining moment to the exit ticket. This gives the students an opportunity to think about what they did well and be proud of themselves.

1) How could this activity be used as an assessment? When students reflect on their learning, I find in 4th grade, students are often reasonably honest. Their reflections help you better learn what concepts they feel they understand and what they still feel they need to work on. I have also given students surveys in which they explained which center activity they found most challenging to aide in my own reflections of lessons. 2) How would you use this in your own classroom with your own students? I do have students self assess and reflect on activities they have done in class. I haven't called it their "shining moments" but when students have to self assess in my class, I do always ask them what they did well along with what they want to work on. I do like the idea of calling it something special like the teacher in this video does.

PAIGE PRICE INTERVIEW: One thing I like to do in my classroom

    Video Transcript

PAIGE PRICE INTERVIEW: One thing I like to do in my classroom on a regular basis is ask students to reflect on a performance, whether it's a paper they wrote or a speech they’ve given or a participation in a discussion, or even participation in a class.

STUDENT: I think that poetry is also about, like, playing with the words, the words themselves.

PAIGE PRICE INTERVIEW: I call them their shining moments. What I’ll ask them to do—it can be on an exit card as they're leaving, it can be on the bottom of a rubric as they get ready to turn in a paper, it can be on the bottom of a rubric as they finish with a speech—I like for them to tell me what they did best.

PAIGE PRICE: Alright, inside circle people! On your white rubrics, what was your shining moment? You have about one minute to write that down.

PAIGE PRICE INTERVIEW: So out of all the things they, did what's the one thing that they want me to focus on because they think they finally got it, or they took it to the next level, or the last time I wasn’t able to give commentary that connected evidence to thesis but now I want you to look at paragraph three. I really like for students to be able to discern the things that stand out in their own work because I think that makes it much more likely that they're going to replicate it next time.
