I was happy to see a response that often happens in my groups when doing number talks....the students are engaged for smaller chunks of time rather than dragging out the silence.  Wait time is good, but as in this group, it seems several students lose interest or forget where they are in the conversation?  One boy literally got up and left.   It's as if students start conjuring up anything they can to add comments rather than really developing a deeper understanding?
