It's amazing to see students who feel they have a voice to share their thoughts about the book topics and themes. Having the principal lead a book club during lunch really helped motivate students to read in order to join in on the discussions, and as they said, be able to get away from the constant being TOLD about something and more into EXPRESSING their insights. While the video helps see importance of individual reading and connections to class lessons, I wish there was more detail on the planning stages and how teachers created lessons that allowed for more student-led discussions in small groups.

Culture of Reading: The video shows a campus that embraces a concept of Independant Reading. This allows the student to be captivated by their book of choice and have a leisure read in the classrooom for a 30 minutes. The teacher then engages the students with questions to build upon a  with the assigned book to facilitate concepts in literature.

I love that the school sets time aside for students to read individually. I feel this school really understands the importance of reading. I like the one on one meetings that help encourage reading. The book club idea is awesome and I wish it was incorporated into every class some way.

I think this is an awesome school, and reading is something that you can for sure learn to love because you have invested time and emotion into each book that you start so therefore most want to finish it to see how it ends up. Encouragement of students reading is something they can carry on through out their whole life, and they will make it a habit like watching TV. The principals book club is an awesome group because all the students seemed to really enjoy what they were reading and talk about it with their peers as well as the principal, and it allows the principal to see how much these students are truly impacted by the books.

I love the way they gave students choices about what they wanted to read and encouraged them. The students seem to be actively in m engaged in the books they liked most.
