I did not learn a lot about the lesson but I did see how well she showed effective classroom management with her students. It was great to see how the students could learn from each other and the activities were fun for them.

This video is helpful as an object lesson of how effective classroom management and discussion moderation can make instruction more efficient and effective.  What it is NOT is an illustration of an effective science lesson.

Can I ask why it was not an effective science lesson in your opinion? The topic was variations in living things, the teacher gave a simplified explanation, and the students gave their own examples of variations from animal books. From my point of view I don't understand how this wasn't effective at all.

I love how the teacher models her expectations in several formats before she has the students do it for themselves. I love the "turn and talk" chips idea.  This is a fun assignment for the students and they are really engaged. The teacher is very encouraging towards the students.
