The teacher used collaborative learning to encourage her students to work together in small groups to discuss their ideas collaboratively. In the video, the teacher used guided and planned questions to increase student discourse. The teacher also had the children sitting in a circle, where each student was visible to all the other students, which encouraged more active participation. The circle format creates a sense of unity and equality. Everyone is at the same level, with no head of the table, which can make students feel more comfortable and willing to share.

1. The teacher does a great job asking questions that make the students use their critical thinking skills.

2. Ms. Brewer creates a inviting space for the students to feel comfortable. I like how the students are sitting on the floor on a circle with their legs crossed, this makes the students feel comfortable.

3. The teacher ask questions to see if the students fully understand the concepts she is teaching. The students seem very excited to learn, she makes the lesson exciting.

Ms.Brewer is actively engaged within each scholar and ask questions to gain an understanding of students' understanding. She is also very positive and gives verbal praise.

The teacher does a great job with the physical space to help aid withvthe scholars' learning. They are spaced accordingly in groups, as well as being able to transition effectively which demonstrates that the teacher implements her expectations in a regular basis.

The teacher moves Ms. Brewer frequently makes is that she monitors the groups and move around, as well as have the scholars explain their thinking from evidence in the text. She also gets all of their opinions which gains Teacher Knowledge of Students.

Learning with the students by open discussion and making "what if", "is it", "can you" questions? Eye contact, smile at face, encouraging students, not using negative remarks also helped in topic of American History.

  1. Ms. Brewer furthers student discussion by asking questions based on students' answers. She used kid-friendly language to communicate with the students---conversational style.
  2. The physical space of the classroom is inviting students to learn and collaborate in small rotating groups.
  3.  I notice Ms. Brewer frequently encourages students to find evidence from the pages they have read or were supposed to have read. This prevents empty talk.
