Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. What role did the school's leadership team play in the implementation of the new program?
  2. What steps did the staff take to help ensure that the new program was set up for success?
  3. How did teachers connect the experiential learning experience to their content area and curriculum?

Aside from the benefits of using a program that allows students to connect their in class curriculum to a real world scenario, I think it was important for the staff to experience the real world (long boat) exercise. Putting the staff in the same position as their students prior to implementing the experiential unit can allow for the staff to reference their experience when planning and presenting it to their students. If the staff can better anticipate the perspective of the students during the lesson, the better the lesson can be planned.
