It is important to clearly and explicitly teach expectations because it allows students to know exactly what the teacher is looking for and what they should be doing exactly. The three b's are an explicit way to teach the students to not interrupt. It also allows a "funny" way for children to understand when it is ok to approach the teacher during busy times.

How do you additionally help if there is a behavior problem between students that needs to be addressed?

  1. Why is it important to clearly and explicitly teach expectations to students?                                                                        If a student doesn't know what the expectations are, chaos and confusion ensues. They will make mistakes that lead to conflict because they were unaware of the procedure.
  2. How do the 3 B's help students determine whether or not they are experiencing an emergency?                                   The 3 B's give an exact checklist for students to use to determine if they're experiencing an emergency. It reduces interruptions and confusion.
  3. Notice the visual signal (wearing the flower necklace) that identifies when the 3 B's apply?                                             The use of the flower necklace contributes to the known expectations of the classroom. They students understand that if they see the visual signal, they are not to approach the back table unless they are experiencing one or more of the 3 B's. Moreover, if they don't see the flower necklace, students know they can go to the back table to address non-emergency questions or concerns.

I am not able to view this video and no one has explicitly listed the "3Bs" in their comments. Consequently, I am still in the dark regarding this teaching strategy. I'd appreciate knowing more about it...in detail.
