I love the idea of second set partners! I have been trying to think of a way to get my students to have a different partner with rearranging them on the rug too often. Brilliant to use head partners and shoulder partners! I love it!! :)

This is amazing! Your videos are really inspiring me to go into the classroom and reevaluate my practice. I love how the 2nd set of partners rephrase what was said and allows for more expression in the conversations.

I love how the students have to remember what their first partner said, and then relay it to their second partner. I think it will really encourage them to be a more active listener, and then better remember what the other person stated. I teach 5th grade, and I do not have any ELL students. But, I still think this strategy would work well in many different areas for retention.

This is a great example of pairing students for sharing. I will do "pair share" after I have introduced a concept, and ask students to turn and talk about when/if/how they have seen this concept before. This is a great way of having EVERYONE involved at once, not just the students who tend to raise their hands every time I ask a question.

I believe this strategy works great with any grade level. It involves listening, comprehension, and oral communication skills. It is a great, fun way to involve and teach students.

Speaker 1: Girls and boys, do you remember what your rug partner said? One way to support my eels in the classroom is to use a second-set partner. Lights, camera, action!

Student: Do you think it's a fact or opinion?

Student: I think it is a fact.

Speaker 1: The children were supposed to share with their rug partner, gain the information that the rug partner was saying, remember it. Second-set partner! Then paraphrase it to their second-set partner using their rug partner's name.

Student: Lena said that you could observe it and facts don't change. Because she can find it in the book and she can see it.

Speaker 1: It really does help the students learn to listen properly and paraphrase properly and they're building on their own knowledge, maybe getting to that next level. It's been very instrumental with my english language learners and my english speakers. Oh, we've got to do second-set. Do you remember what your rug partner said?

Student: Yeah.

Speaker 1: Ready to go? Alright, let's go. Boom.

Speaker 1: It's literally like playing the broken telephone game.
