Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. Mr. Michaud mentions show and tell themes. How does this structure provide for more equitable discussions?
  2. How do the worksheet and Mr. Michaud's questioning provide scaffolding for student presentations?
  3. What other learning goals are addressed during this sharing time?

Giving the show-n-tell times a theme it may make it less boring and cause the children to put more thought into the things they choose to bring. This way it is truly a thought provoking assignment and not just a grab something to take to school.  The worksheet is a great idea, it focuses the students and helps them to stay on task when presenting there objects. It tells the class what they already know about the object and what they learned. The students also learn to be patient and wait there turn, they learn to listen well so that they can ask questions.

This is a great way to let the children share with the class. I do think it is really great that the teacher does this throughout the year so that the students don't feel ler out based on what they bring. On the antiques day, this was a really great way to get the students to grow in their reading skills, writing skills, and communication skills. The students asking questions about the objects is also a really great way to allow them to engage with one another while learning about the history of the objects brought. This is also a memorable activity for the students because the students get to decide what object to bring based on the topic. I can't wait to do this in my classroom!

Hello All Am experiencing this in my fours classroom. From what I gather children want to show off item parents buy or give them. Usually it’s a transitional item sometimes but not often pertaining to what children are talking about during play times. Usually item is about ‘look what I have.’ Really enjoy this idea! Thanks ?

I absolutely love this! What a great way to teach history and learn about different items that most likely were used during their parents or grandparents time. One thing that I loved that you did during this is allowing other students to ask questions.
