Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. How does this approach teach students to take initiative in learning new things?
  2. How do the projects develop both hard and soft skills for college and the work force?
  3. What type of direction and support do students need when given such an open-ended task?

Awesome idea let them problem solve learn a new skill and a relevant skill. The importance here is they have direction, guidance and understand that help is available they just have to ask. In addition, the students get an opportunity to be creative.

Nice, I wish my school was small enough to have all the students do this on a Friday. I like the idea!

I am enamored by the idea behind this. I have had to learn to back off and not guide everything my students do, and wow, have my special kids surprised me. They gravitate towards technology for the most part; this is one area they can conquer without constant adult supervision. I fully expect this area to have a very high independent success rate. It really is fun to watch them be successful without adults telling them what to do.
