As usual, a great lesson. I really like the observe, pattern, and connect/conclusion method because it is an easy scaffold for students. I use this with my own students by saying that we are going to look at this text like a detective (we will observe first, look for patterns, and then draw a conclusion.) I also love beginning with a text students are more comfortable with, like a picture or song, because they are often less intimidated.

I like this video because you actually talk through how teachers think. It is so important to get students to develop skills in critical thinking and to be able to understand the process of analysis. I shared this with a new teacher that I am mentoring. Teaching is so hard if you want to do it well. I like your thought process and I'm still working to teach on the level that you do every day.

There a lot of other frames such as Marxism, feminism & Freud. Also, there's the Formalist type of interpretation, but I think it's related to the New Critical approach. I recommned that you buy "Literary Theory" by Terry Eagleton; "The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative" by H. Abbott, which are pretty useful to understand also the bridge between Modernism, Post-Modernism, and Post-Post Modernism. Hope it helps.
