I count myself lucky to have been watching this in video form, where I could pause it. I pity the students, and at one point actually proclaimed "You are a teacher, not a gameshow host." Motor mouth does not mix well with the classroom, in my opinion.

Also, I have to roll my eyes a bit about the lack of mention of Bill Haley, since the genre was named in reference to his songs.

The lesson is well-planned and detailed from start to finish. The teacher gives an overview of the upcoming research paper, a rubric for the research paper, a lesson on the various music genres from which the students can write about, and a timeline for which students are to follow. She is incredibly time-efficient and gives a brief history about each music genre that includes video clips, characteristics, artists, and its cultural and/or historical significance. By consistently questioning the students' prior knowledge, they remain actively involved throughout the entire lesson.

Wow! You can really see how much you know your students in this clip. I love how much you referred back to their prior knowledge and kept making modern connections. The reference to the chalk activity where they created the connection between the color blue and the emotion blue, genius. Breaking the lecture up with videos and talking sessions also helped to keep the entire thing novel, keep the kiddos engaged, and gave the opportunity to assess their understanding. I really enjoyed that the clips you showed also represented the students you had in the room. Brava.

Go ahead Sister! I love how engaged your students are. You make learning fun. Kudos to you and your students. You encouraged independent thought. You made certain the students had complete comprehension of their assignment. You were patient and witty. Very admirable work.

Your "academic language" is on point too. I wish I could read those research papers!

This was a really crafty, and thought-out lesson.  I was engaged and I believe the children were engaged.  They seemed to be really interested and I could see the "a-ha" go off in their minds when she played the songs and they recognized some of them.
