Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. How do the students help each other with their misconceptions?
  2. Why does Ms. Mekita review the student work with her colleagues?
  3. What common misconceptions do the teachers notice in the work?
  4. How will they address them?

I love the way Ms. Mekita explains to the students that they will be "laying their misconceptions out on the table" so that they can then work toward everyone clarifying their understanding. This video helped me better understand the roles of questioning and formative assessment as teaching and learning techniques, and it reminded me of the importance of teacher collaboration and reflection. Does anyone have any ideas for promoting collaborative reflection when there is only one teacher teaching each subject and teachers have no common meeting time?
