Are the role materials linked somewhere? I would like more information on how to implement this with middle schoolers.

I love this!!! I have several ESL and low level classes. It is wonderful that each student is engaged and contributing to their table discussion instead on just the teacher or the same 3 students talking. Is there anyway to get a copy of the Roles/responsibilites? and a copy of the paper for each table group?

I enjoyed this video. It shows how the students are engaged and helping each other learn. The teacher is not just talking he Is facilitating. This helps the students be engaged in what they are doing and not bored in class just listening.

The teacher opened the class by reading aloud to the ESL students, and the students were then given an opportunity to read aloud to each other within discussion groups. The students were assigned roles within the group: discussion facilitator, summarizer, word searcher, and illustrator. This allowed the students to synthesize information in various ways and learn the new information within context. The teacher was very involved with the whole class and guided students through their learning, and the students were able to guide each other. The teacher provided constructive and positive feedback for each of the groups at the end of the class. It was very pleasing to see the students smiling and interacting with each other, and they also applauded at the end of the lesson. This was fantastic instruction.
