Ms. Noonan has a great deal of energy in her classroom. She moves and talks quickly and with enthusiasm. The students strive to keep up with her, and they seem to enjoy the fast pace. She moves from one subject to another by using the “word of the day” as a verbal cue. I love this method of using a vocabulary word over and over to really get it into the students’ brains.
While I do not have the same energy level, I do like to use my vocabulary words in other settings throughout the day and week to really drive them home. The regular use of new words in a variety of settings helps students to not only recognize the individual words, but it demonstrates how adding new language is possible, and it makes communication more effective.
I work with middle-school students who are at that fun age where most things can be considered boring if they do not immediately attract and retain their attention. As silly as it can seem at times, I like to use vocabulary words, and it is really fun to see the faces of students when they recognize the new words and how they are used in everyday life. It is also fun to make them groan, as they have to endure them like some kind of grammar dad-jokes.

I am in the process of becoming a teacher and these strategies are amazing. This does show ELA relates to everything the students do.

I concurr with the other educators that Ms Noonan is using so many great skills helping her learners by using so many excellent strategies. I haven't seen the morning meeting done before and my first reaction was that precious minutes were being lost. Her learners are goal setting before class begins. They want to be pepared if their name is called and this helps in self-assessment and goal setting. She uses so many language building strategies and the safe community is so evident. Outstanding job!
