Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. Notice the variety of activities that prepare students for the culminating event How does a culminating event motivate student learning?
  2. How could you implement a simplified version of an expedition and/or culminating event in a more traditional classroom?

This is the single greatest example of motivating students to learn through meaningful curriculum. The play based on the Seeds book, the real-life controversial issues that are misconstrued by the media, and I forgot the third expeditionary learning one. I watched it on my DVR recording and I had to come on here and comment on it. It also reminded me of my master teacher who read fairy tales with students and had them create their own. They brainstormed, wrote scripts, memorized, painted sets, and performed at a night performance. This was a whole class effort with a culminating event. This school takes it to another level with the whole grade level and each teaching discipline contributing. Very impressive. A lot of teachers also try to incorporate the basics of this with a memorized biography speech that must be written and edited.
