I like what he has to say about getting students involved in making a poster at the beginning of the semester to clarify the rules. I think something like that is worth the time to do early on, so it can set the tone.

I do cellphone jitterz minutes and I let them get out that need 5 min before lesson begins and 5 minutes at the end of class. I don't allow them to just be on them but it is hard to get them off of them.

In my class nobody can have their phone and if I see the phone one time I call the administrator to get the phone from the students. If he takes the phone again I call his parents and also I write a referral for interrupting my class. I am very serious with my rules and the school rules too. The phone in high school is very bad and teacher needs to make sure that they support the principal and the rules of the school.
