    Summary

    The classic Cartesian Diver physics experiment gets re-worked as a magic trick, to help a Year 7 class explore pressure and density, in this fun idea for transforming classroom practice.
    Physics teacher Alan Haigh carries out the Cartesian Diver experiment about pressure and density in front of his Key Stage 3 class but disguises it as magic trick, complete with wand.
    The pupils construct their own theories as to how the diver is moving, such as magnetism and static electricity. Alan then provides them with a range of laboratory equipment to test their theories.
    As the secondary class gets to grips with what is actually happening, they start to consider the affect of pressure and density on the diver.
    Alan, a science teacher at Woodkirk High School, first used this lesson idea with his tutorial group but now uses it across year groups.
