I'm just wondering if you can use this technic even with the little ones. I'm talking about first, second, and third graders. I know that this isn't a comment. It is a question.

Neat idea to keep the classroom on track. I could see how one can let time slip away during engaging talks. Micro management with a timer helps the teacher and the students build an internal clock that they can use in the future when clocks or timers are not available to stay on track.

Keeping a visible time tracker in a classroom can be good for many reasons. You can appoint different students each day as time keepers, it keeps everyone on task, it enables students to increase their time mangement skills, and it keeps the teacher to transition to the next lesson in a timely fashion.

I think that time management is essential in the classroom not only for the teacher, but also for the students. The video shows that a visible timer helps students stay on task and stay focused. It also teaches the students how to manage their time. Initially, I thought that a timer might create a stressfull environment, but this teacher offers additional time if needed at the end of each activity, so this eliminates that stress factor. The key is for the teacher to figure out how much time the students will need for the activity so that it challenges them, but doesn't stress them out. A visible timer helps the students move with purpose and with more focus. It also helps the teacher stay on track with the lesson plan and the activities.
