Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. What are some reasons this district "internationalizes" its curriculum?
  2. How does this global approach impact students and their future selves?
  3. Notice the depth and rigor of student discussions. What elements of this approach can you bring to your school or classroom?

As I watched this short video, I was amazed at the foresight and vision of the teachers who were leading this discussion. The demonstration they, partook, in which each student represented a country's view that was foreign to them was mind-exspanding on the horizon. Not many adults would know the fine details of the war tragedities that took place in the Congo. These kids even went into the make up of so-called Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and how their purposes and goals, are not always clearly known.

It is schools like these that show what a great country we could be, and how diversity makes a society stronger and resistant to prejudice. Also, there were some wonderful teachers sharing magnificent lessons! Bravo!

This is so fantastic! I love all the things that are included in this video- the great potential of students, importance of ethnic diversity in the classroom, the global perception of the US, "international literacy," and the power of information. Great video!

What lucky students to learn, collaborate, and experience the elements of how different countries work together to share global views and appreciate one another!
