I was enjoying the lesson until the teacher could not find a better statement other than the one with "niggar" in it. Unfortunately, it shows that she is not sensitive to all of her students, especially when she herself repeated the word "niggar". It speaks to her character and her inability to redirect meaning without using the offensive term. Evidently, the camera man is not either. He focused on the African American student the whole time the statement in the book was being read. So sad...

The wording is Negro... stop race baiting, please. There's an accent in the dialect where they are. Listen again and then just focus on the point of the video, please.

The teacher conducts an in-depth discussion about the story through a focus on symbolism. She allows the students to synthesize their understanding through connections to lessons about themes. The teacher informally assesses the students to gauge their level of understanding, and adjusts her upcoming assignments and homework to ensure that everyone is can achieve the target learning objectives. Additionally, she provides color-coded visual learning aides that help visual learners and allows more students in the class to deepen their understanding of symbolism.
