In This Vlog with Sarah Brown Wessling:

What will learning look like and sound like in my classroom? What experiences do I want my students to have? How will I create a classroom that helps us all accomplish our goals?

In terms of classroom culture, here are MY goals for my students this year:

  • Learn to trust each other and trust me
  • Participate in all kinds of discussions
  • Take intellectual risks
  • Laugh together and have a lot of fun

Your Turn:

1. Write your goals for classroom culture in the comments section below.

2. Check out Sarah's Observation Challenge: What Do You Hear? Download the Observational Worksheet for What Do You Hear?

3. Get inspired by watching great teachers teach. Look for other videos in Teaching Channel's library that align with your goals for the year.

Thanks Sarah! I wish I would've taken the time to view this before the first day. I will do this after the long labor day weekend. I always dread the first few days of school because I feel the students get bored with the rules and procedures. I'm not going to teach the rules on the first day anymore.

I love how you remind us, Kathy, that our students will enlighten and enrich us too. All my best for a fabulous beginning!

My goal is to teach the first day and demonstrate to my students my authentic desire to build a trusting relationship with each of them as well as to establish a productive learning community for them. I also hope they see me as a model life-long learner eager for them to enlighten and enrich me.
