Teaching a lesson by song is a very good idea. This helps the student relate, because they enjoy listening to music in their free time. This relation will help the students comprehend and retain this knowledge. Singing a lesson provides not only auditory, but visual techniques for the variety of learning styles.

The music was very helpful, and the students got it right the first try. I wish she was my science teacher because science was very boring. She made this lesson very interesting with music and the students were all actively engaged.

The video Singing in Science was a unique way for students to learn biology topics. Mrs. Richard explained exactly how she made the song and how to make it “hook”. This is a great way to help students remember things such as mitosis in the video. Having a catchy tune that sticks with them and really helps them understand the material.

I see students seeing words to songs every day. They remember the words and the melody because of the rythym. I love this idea to teach science concepts and I bet that students would remember this song and concept for years! Having students design lyrics would be an additional way to build on this concept and use in future years.
