Discussion and Supporting Materials

Thought starters

  1. What does the teacher do to promote inquiry in his classroom?
  2. How does the teacher help his students make predictions throughout the investigation?
  3. Why do you think the teacher has his students do the whiteboarding activity?

I throughly loved watching this video, I loved how you interacted with the students and modeled the experiment first and then let them learn themselves, first predicting and then testing and then reflecting on what they learned. This helped them learn how to predict and learn how to experiment and possibly learn how to support their predictions. I also think that you must have time for your students to do this experiment also.

Where we're you when I was an eighth grade student? You made thieir learning fun. I also like the way you got them to make a lot of predictions because it made them think before the actually did the experiment. Often times kids want to rush into doing it . I believe they saw the value of their predictions
